DHAKA, April 15, 2026 (BSS) - Police have arrested a youth along with counterfeit currency worth Tk 40 lakh from Sadarghat Launch Terminal area in the capital.

The arrested individual has been identified as Ali Azgar Sikder (23).

According to sources at Kotwali Police Station, police received information that a suspect had been detained by locals at Gate No. 9 of the Sadarghat Launch Terminal with fake currency at 8:30 pm on Tuesday. 

Acting swiftly, a team from the police station rushed to the scene and took the detainee into custody.

During the operation, law enforcers recovered fake notes amounting to Tk 40 lakh from his possession.

Police sources said that the recovered notes initially appeared to be counterfeit. 

During preliminary interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed that he had been involved in trading fake currency for a long time.

The detainee has been sent to the court for further legal proceedings.
