DHAKA, April 13, 2026 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has arrested a youth along with 10 gold bars weighing 1.116 kg, worth approximately Tk 2.47 crore, while attempting to smuggle the gold to India through the Darshana Old Railway Station area along the border.
On information, a team from the BGB's Chuadanga Battalion (6 BGB) conducted a drive in the area and apprehended the alleged smuggler, identified as Md Alamgir Khan, 55.
Md Alamgir Khan, son of late Badal Khan of Darshana Mubarakpara village, was detained in the Darshana Old Railway Station area, said a BGB press release signed by Chuadanga Battalion Commander Lt Col Md Nazmul Hasan.
Later, in the presence of locals, BGB personnel searched his body and recovered 10 gold bars wrapped with khaki scotch tape around his waist.
A mobile phone used in the smuggling operation was also seized.
The recovered gold weighs 1.116 kg and its estimated market value is about Tk 247,89,160, the release added.
Legal proceedings are underway in this connection.
