DHAKA, Apr 13, 2026 (BSS) - The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Sunday arrested seven individuals, including the prime accused Moin Uddin Moin, in connection with an extortion case involving prominent kidney specialist Dr Kamrul Islam and his Center for Kidney Diseases & Urology Hospital (CKDU) in Shyamoli of the capital.
According to a press release from the RAB Legal and Media Wing issued today, Moin was arrested as the number one accused in the case filed over the alleged extortion attempt at CKDU Hospital.
RAB confirmed that six other individuals were also arrested in connection with the same incident.
RAB said the arrests were made on Sunday through a joint operation conducted by RAB-2, RAB-4, RAB-6 and the Intelligence Branch of RAB Headquarters.
The arrested were identified as Md Liton Mia, Md Sumon, Md Shaon, Swapan Kazi, Md Falan and Rubel, along with Moin Uddin Moin.
Earlier, four associates of Moin had also been detained in connection with the case.
RAB said that the accused had allegedly been demanding Tk 500,000 from the hospital authorities for a prolonged period and issued threats when their demands were not met.
On April 10, they allegedly went to a residence on Road No. 3 in Shyamoli under Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station area and demanded the money directly from the victim's family.
The force added that it will continue intensified operations in the future to maintain law and order, ensure public safety, and bring all criminals to justice.
