DHAKA, April 12, 2026 (BSS) - ILO Country Director Max Tunon met with State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Haque at the latter's office in the ministry today.
During the meeting, the State Minister said the current government is giving top priority to creating employment opportunities for youth. Various training programs are being conducted through the Department of Youth Development in different trades, which are enhancing skills and making young people self-reliant.
The State Minister informed the ILO Country Director that training courses such as caregiving, mobile servicing and freelancing offered by the department have already received a strong response.
He also noted initiatives have been undertaken to generate employment in line with the government's election manifesto through the department.
The ILO Country Director said the ISEC (Improving Skills and Economic Opportunities for Women and Youth in Cox's Bazar) project is currently being implemented jointly by the ILO and the Department of Youth Development. The project is playing a significant role in enhancing skills and creating employment opportunities for youth in the area. So far, more than 7,000 young people have been employed through 46 training courses under the project.
He also expressed interest in working jointly with the Ministry of Youth and Sports on capacity building, training programs and entrepreneurship development.
