DHAKA, Apr 09, 2026 (BSS) — The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has undertaken coordinated and stringent measures across the country to prevent the artificial shortage of edible oil and ensure market stability.
Since its inception, RAB has been playing a leading role in maintaining law and order by arresting various categories of criminals, including murderers, extortionists, terrorists, kidnappers, fraudsters, and other high-profile offenders.
The force has also been actively involved in recovering illegal arms, ammunition, and narcotics, bringing offenders under the law.
In response to recent concerns over the artificial crisis of edible oil, RAB has intensified intelligence surveillance and launched regular drives against dishonest hoarders and black marketers.
Mobile courts have been conducted in different parts of the country, resulting in fines and legal actions against offenders. As part of these efforts, several raids were carried out on April 8.
In Feni district’s Rampur Takia Road, under the supervision of RAB-7, a joint drive uncovered the illegal stockpiling of 30,000 liters of edible oil. Two organisations were fined a total of Tk 250,000.
In Narsingdi Sadar, operations against Bismillah Enterprise and Madina Trading revealed illegal storage of 5,000 liters of oil. Additionally, 20,000 liters were found stored in unhygienic conditions in the Chakbazar area. The offenders were fined Tk 15,000 and issued warnings.
In Satkhira Sadar, Sadhu Store and Haji Traders were fined Tk 25,000 for excessive hoarding, expired products, lack of valid licenses, and attempts to create artificial scarcity.
In Bagerhat’s Chulkati Bazar, Messrs Raj Store was fined Tk 20,000 for stockpiling approximately 20,400 liters of soybean oil without proper purchase and sale documents.
In a separate drive in Sonargaon, Narayanganj, 1,200 liters of illegally stored edible oil were seized from a warehouse owned by Md. Moin.
The owner was fined Tk 200,000 for operating without BSTI license, unauthorized labeling, and lack of quality certification.
In Kushtia Sadar, Babul Pal Store was fined Tk 100,000 for hoarding 5,573 liters of edible oil with the intent to create artificial scarcity.
In Moulvibazar Sadar, Moulovi Cash & Carry was fined Tk 10,000 for withholding seven cartons of edible oil from sale despite having stock.
Overall, through nine mobile courts conducted the same day, authorities identified an abnormal stockpile of 142,173 liters of edible oil and imposed total fines amounting to Tk 620,000.
RAB has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining normal law and order across the country.
The force continues its regular patrols, intelligence monitoring, mobile court operations, and drives to curb terrorism and other criminal activities.
