DHAKA, March 17, 2026 (BSS) - Professor Dr ABM Obaidul Islam, currently serving as Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Open University, has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor (on a temporary basis) of Dhaka University.

The Secondary and Higher Education Division under the Ministry of Education issued a notification in this regard today, signed by Additional Secretary (Universities) Alif Rudaba.

According to the notification, the appointment has been made under Article 11(2) of the Dhaka University Order, 1973, and will take effect from the date he assumes office.

As Vice-Chancellor, he will act as the Chief Executive Officer of the university and is required to remain present on campus. He will receive salary and allowances equivalent to his current position and will be entitled to other benefits in line with existing rules.

The President, also the Chancellor of the university, may cancel the appointment at any time if deemed necessary, the notification added.
