BOGURA, Mar 2, 2026 (BSS) – Three candidates from Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Jamaat-e-Islami and Bangladesh Development Party submitted their nomination papers today for the by-election to the Bogura-6 (Sadar) constituency, vacated by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
On the last day of nomination submission, the candidates submitted their nomination papers to the district election officer and returning officer.
BNP-nominated candidate and district BNP president Rezaul Karim (Badsha) submitted his nomination papers at noon. Earlier, he was centrally nominated to contest the polls with the party’s electoral symbol ‘Sheaf of Paddy’.
After submitting his nomination, Badsha told journalists that all must remain united to ensure victory of the ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ for the development of Bogura.
Jamaat-e-Islami candidate and central executive council member Abidur Rahman Sohel submitted his nomination papers this afternoon. He said voters had been deceived in the past and now they want change. He expressed optimism about winning the election with the party’s electoral symbol ‘Scale’.
Bangladesh Development Party candidate Al Amin Talukder submitted his nomination papers.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman was elected from this constituency in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election. After being elected from two constituencies, he vacated the Bogura-6 seat the day before taking oath, leading to the declaration of the seat as vacant. The Election Commission later announced the by-election schedule.
In the election held on February 12, he secured 216,284 votes, winning all 150 polling centres. His nearest rival, Abidur Rahman, obtained 97,626 votes.
The constituency, comprising Bogura Sadar upazila, has a total of 454,043 voters according to the updated January 2026 voter list. Of them, 222,796 are male, 231,237 female and 10 are listed as hijra voters.
According to the schedule, March 2 is the last date for submission of nomination papers, March 5 for scrutiny, March 14 for withdrawal of candidature and March 15 for symbol allocation.
Voting will be held on April 9.
