Court attaches flat of ex-add’l secy Afroza Begum

DHAKA, March 02, 2026 (BSS) – A court here today ordered the attachment of a 2,700 sqf flat in the city’s Mohakhali DOHS area owned by Syeda Afroza Begum, former additional secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, over graft allegations.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The application stated that an investigation team has been formed to probe allegations against Afroza’s husband Md Mohibul Haque, former senior secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, over accepting bribes, committing various irregularities, embezzling hundreds of crores of taka from different development projects, laundering money abroad, and acquiring assets in his own name and in the names of his family members.

It said that a review of information and documents collected during the inquiry revealed that a 2,700-SQF flat, in the Mohakhali DOHS area of Dhaka, is registered in the name of his wife, Syeda Afroza Begum.

According to information obtained from various sources, Syeda Afroza Begum is attempting to transfer, relocate, or otherwise dispose of the immovable property acquired in her name. The application further said that if the property is transferred before completion of the inquiry, there is a strong possibility that the investigation may be hampered.
