CHATTOGRAM, Mar 1, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Parwar has urged the government to halt post-election violence and take effective measures to promote political tolerance for the betterment of Bangladesh.

Professor Mia Golam Parwar made the call as the chief guest at an Iftar Mahfil hosted by the Chattogram City Jamaat Islami to honor distinguished individuals at the GEC Convention Center in the city this afternoon.

He emphasized the need to establish a new Bangladesh by moving away from the violent events that occurred during the student and people's revolution in July.

“We all committed to fostering a culture of tolerance and acceptance in politics. Our Ameer Jamaat provided a great analogy, comparing the government party and the opposition party to two wheels of a bicycle. He emphasized that just as a bicycle cannot move without both wheels, a state's democratic progress relies on the coordination and cooperation between these two entities,” he explained.

Expressing deep concern, Mia Golam Parwar lamented, "Following the elections, we have witnessed a surge in intolerance and violence across the country. It is disheartening to see winners attacking and setting fire to the homes of the losers and Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists, which is completely unacceptable."
He further stated, "In the brutal attack on our leaders and activists in Jibannagar, Chuadanga, after Iftar last Saturday, one person was killed, and many others are hospitalized with severe injuries."

The Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami expressed that in the two constituencies where Jamaat-e-Islami emerged victorious in Chuadanga, there were no attacks on the losing candidates. Instead, a peaceful and safe environment was maintained. However, he highlighted that in many other constituencies, the winners are targeting Jamaat leaders and activists.

He emphasized the urgency of halting the violence before the National Parliament session, stating that the vision of a new Bangladesh, achieved through the sacrifices of thousands of youth, will remain unfulfilled if the violence persists. The government was urged to take immediate and effective action to curb the ongoing violence.

The event was chaired by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Central Working Committee member and Chattogram City Ameer Mohammad Nazrul Islam, with City Jammat Secretary Principal Mohammad Nurul Amin serving as the moderator.

City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain, Abu Sufian, MP, Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Mohammad Shahjahan, and Central Working Committee Member Alhaj Shahjahan Chowdhury MP were among the distinguished speakers at the event.

The gathering was attended by notable figures such as IIUC Vice Chancellor Dr. Mohammad Ali Azadi, Pro-VC Dr. Professor Hasmat Ali, and Port City University Vice Chancellor Dr. Mohammad Tayyab Chowdhury.
