Govt to modernize, make state-owned industries profitable: Sharmin

NATORE, March 1, 2026 (BSS) – State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Farzana Sharmin today said the government will take initiatives to modernize all state-owned industries, including sugar mills, and bring them to a profitable level.

She made the remarks while addressing the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected committee of the North Bengal Sugar Mill Workers’ Union at Gopalpur in Natore as the chief guest.

She said that to make sugar mills profitable, all stakeholders must perform their duties efficiently and responsibly.

Sharmin, who also serves as State Minister for Social Welfare, said the government will ensure workers’ rightful benefits, create a safe working environment, and provide maximum welfare facilities.

The state minister emphasized the need to increase sugar production by expanding sugarcane cultivation, noting that only then can the sugar industry move toward profitability. She stressed that farmers and all employees working in the sugar mills must work in coordination.

Managing Director of North Bengal Sugar Mill Farid Hossain Bhuiyan chaired the event, while Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Lalpur Julhas Hossain Sourav attended as a special guest.

The newly elected committee of the North Bengal Sugar Mill Workers’ Union, led by President Mominul Islam Manik and General Secretary Delwar Hossain, took oath during the programme.
