MoFA UN wing DG calls on NHRCB chairperson

DHAKA, Feb 26, 2026 (BSS) – Director General of the United Nations Wing of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) Shah Asif Rahman today paid a courtesy call on National Human Rights Commission Bangladesh (NHRCB) Chairperson Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury at the commission’s office in Dhaka.

During the meeting, they held discussions on ongoing national and international human rights activities, opportunities for coordinated engagement with the United Nations, and ways to further strengthen mutual cooperation.

The talks focused on key human rights issues concerning Bangladesh, particularly the humanitarian and rights aspects of the Rohingya crisis, underscoring the need for enhanced cooperation and sustainable solutions. 

They also exchanged views on strengthening coordination and preparedness among relevant stakeholders in implementing activities under the United Nations Universal Periodic Review (UPR) process.

The NHRCB chairperson highlighted the expansion of the commission’s jurisdiction and scope of work under the National Human Rights Commission Ordinance, 2025, expressing optimism that the ordinance would soon be enacted into law.

Both sides discussed continuing and expanding existing cooperation for the promotion and protection of human rights. They also reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining the government’s efforts to implement international human rights obligations and maintain constructive dialogue among relevant institutions.
