DHAKA, Feb 23, 2026 (BSS) - A nine-member convening committee has been formed for the newly established “Dhaka Reporters Unity Debating Club,” with M M Jasim as convener and Sheikh Md Arif as member secretary.

The information was disclosed in a press release signed by DRU general secretary Mainul Hasan Sohel.

The debating club has been formed under the initiative of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) with a view to promoting the mental and intellectual development of its members and their children.

Jasim currently serves as organising secretary of DRU, while Arif is a senior member of the organisation.

Other members of the committee are - Niaz Mahmud Sohel, Jannatul Ferdous Panna, Mahmud Sohel, Mahfuz Sadi, Kazi Shahidul Alam ,Md Riasad Azim and Asif Zaman Sumit.

The DRU executive committee-2026 earlier took the initiative to establish a debating club. The decision was approved at an executive meeting held on January 12 this year with DRU President Abu Saleh Akon in the chair, leading to the formation of the convening committee.
