DHAKA, Feb 23, 2026 (BSS) - Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, today inaugurated its city office in Dhaka and announced the resumption of direct Malé,-Dhaka flights from March 12, strengthening air connectivity between Bangladesh and the Maldives.

The city office, located at Taj Marriott, second Floor, 25 Gulshan Avenue, was inaugurated by the airline's Managing Director (MD) Ibrahim Iyas. 

Director of Ground Operations Ahmed Ibrahim and General Manager Commercial (International) Mohamed Saffah were present, along with Ahmed Yusuf Walid, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Galaxy Bangladesh Group, the carrier's General Sales Agent in Bangladesh.

Speaking at the function, Ibrahim Iyas said the route resumption reflects the airline's commitment to serving the large Bangladeshi expatriate community in the Maldives and enhancing bilateral connectivity.

"Dhaka is a key market for Maldivian. The reopening of this route underscores our dedication to providing reliable, affordable and convenient travel options for Bangladeshi workers and Maldivian travellers alike. We are confident this service will further deepen the longstanding ties between our two countries," he said.

Following the inauguration, the Maldivian delegation paid courtesy calls on the Chairman of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) and the Managing Director (MD) and CEO of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.

The twice-weekly service will operate on Sundays and Thursdays, with round-trip fares starting from USD 399 (approximately Taka 47,880). Flights are scheduled to arrive in Dhaka in the early morning hours, facilitating onward international connections.

Airline officials said the route resumption responds to strong demand from Bangladeshi nationals working in the Maldives and is expected to boost passenger movement, particularly during peak travel seasons.

The launch coincides with the conclusion of Ramadan and the forthcoming Eid-ul-Fitr holidays, offering convenient travel options for Maldivians travelling abroad and Bangladeshi nationals returning home.

Passengers will be entitled to a 30 kilograms (Kgs) checked baggage allowance along with complimentary onboard meals. Bookings have opened through the airline's official website, mobile application and call centre.

To mark the relaunch, the airline announced a music festival titled "Dhaka, We Heard You," scheduled for next Friday for the Bangladeshi community in the Maldives.

Maldivian currently operates a fleet of 26 aircraft, including one Airbus A330, one Airbus A320, five ATR aircraft, eight Dash 8 aircraft and eleven Dash 6 Twin Otter planes, serving domestic and international destinations across the region.
