DHAKA, Feb 22, 2026 (BSS) – A court has convicted and sentenced five people, including a couple, to life imprisonment for the 2022 murder of Mohammadpur resident Md Amir Hossain.
The convicts are Kabir Hossain, his wife Swapna Begum, Md Humayun, Md Falan, and Md Milon alias Nuru.
Judge Md Khorshed Alam of the Dhaka 8th Additional Sessions Judge Court delivered the verdict. In addition to life imprisonment, each convict was fined Taka 10,000.
According to the case statement, the victim, Amir Hossain, used to run a tea and cigarette shop at Palashi More in Dhaka. Seven to eight months before the murder, he allegedly assaulted Swapna Begum following a dispute near Shahid Minar.
On January 21, 2022, at around 10:00 pm, after closing his shop, Amir was lured to Rayer Bazar in Mohammadpur by Kabir and four others, where Swapna was waiting. Kabir then stabbed Amir repeatedly during the pre-planned attack. Neighbours rushed in after hearing his cries, forcing the attackers to flee. Amir was taken to hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The next day, Amir’s brother Md Zakir Hossain filed a murder case at Mohammadpur Police Station against Swapna, Kabir, and three others. Police submitted the charge sheet against the five accused after investigation.
