KHULNA, Feb 22, 2026 (BSS) – Newly elected Member of Parliament for Khulna-4 constituency, Azizul Bari Helal, has pledged that there will be no place in his party for drug traders, extortionists, terrorists, or illegal occupiers.

Khulna-4 constituency comprises Rupsa, Terokhada, and Dighalia upazilas.

Helal said freeing the area from terrorism, extortion, drug trafficking, and illegal occupation and ensuring the safety of ordinary people would be his first and foremost priority.

Talking to BSS after the election, Helal said, he began his political career through Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal. Rising through the ranks, he later became the central president of the student wing and subsequently served as Information Affairs Secretary of the BNP’s central committee.

He has now been elected as Member of Parliament from Khulna-4, emerging as what supporters describe as a symbol of public trust.

In the election held on February 12, he secured 1,23,162 votes, defeating his nearest rival, Maulana SakhawatHossain of Khelafat Majlis by a margin of 13,632 votes.

Helal said he would prioritize the commitments he made to the people. During pre-election rallies, he had pledged to stand by the people of Rupsa, Terokhada, and Dighalia until his last breath.

Highlighting his development agenda, Helal said his focus would be on improving peace and order, healthcare, sustainable development, establishing a drug-free society, promoting moral and religious education, and upgrading communication infrastructure by linking internal roads with major highways.

He also emphasized enhancing the quality of shrimp, locally known as “white gold” -- through the establishment of modern preservation facilities.

However, he noted that infrastructure development alone is not enough for sustainable progress.

“Without human development, actual advancement is not possible,” he said, adding that Khulna-4 would be brought back on the path of peace, development, and good governance after years of neglect and deprivation.

He pledged to ensure the rightful entitlements of the people of the constituency.

Helal further stated that society must return to moral and religious values, emphasizing that people of all faiths should work together to build a peaceful community.

“Politics must be based on truth, honesty, and justice. Religion unites people, it does not divide them,” he added, urging guardians to keep their children away from drugs.

Issuing a call to law enforcement agencies and the administration, he urged them to take strict legal action against criminals, regardless of their political affiliation.

“No matter which party they belong to, punishment for wrongdoing must be ensured. I will provide full cooperation,” he said.

Concluding his remarks, the MP said as an elected representative of all voters, he bears responsibility toward everyone.

To facilitate public complaints, he has launched a hotline -- 01973-667466. He also pledged to meet with the people every two to three months, as he did during the campaign period, to listen to their concerns and work toward resolving their problems.
