CHATTOGRAM, February 21, 2026 (BSS) - Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain today said standing by the people in need is a unique example of humanity.
Urging all to support the needy especially when they are struggling with rising commodity prices caused by profit-seeking businessmen, the CCC Mayor said city development goes beyond just infrastructure and includes ensuring the well-being of residents by meeting their basic needs and bringing smiles to their faces.
Dr. Hossain made these remarks as the chief guest at an Iftar distribution event for the needy and helpless individuals organized by the Late Abu Bakkar Foundation at Kazir Deuri in the city on Saturday afternoon.
During the program, essential Iftar and food items such as rice, pulses, oil and chickpeas were distributed to hundreds of needy and low-income families.
Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain stressed that the holy month of Ramadan teaches us about self-purification and brotherhood. It is a time to not only focus on ourselves but also to consider the less fortunate around us.
Guests at the event included Mohammad Abu Sufian, MP, and Abul Hashem Bakkar, former City BNP General Secretary.
Abu Sufian said the essence of politics is to serve the people, and providing Iftar items to the public during Ramadan is a noble act, especially in the face of rising commodity prices.
The event was presided over by Haji Abu Faiz, former General Secretary of Bagman Niram Ward BNP.
