Zillur elected president, Rabiul GS of PGDEA

DHAKA, Feb 17, 2026 (BSS) - Members of the Power Grid Diploma Engineers Association (PGDEA) have elected assistant engineer Md Zillur Rahman as president and sub-assistant engineer Md Rabiul Islam as general secretary (GS) for the 2026-28 term.

A total of 1,426 out of 1,486 registered voters cast their ballots to elect the 35-member executive committee.

Md Zillur Rahman secured 767 votes to defeat his rival candidate Mohammad Hasan Al Razib, who received 659 votes.

For the post of general secretary, Md Rabiul Islam obtained 849 votes. His nearest rival Md Enamul Haque secured 533 votes, while Mohammad Ali Shah Chodhury received 44 votes.

The election was held simultaneously in 64 districts across the country on February 15 through direct voting.

The eight vice-presidents elected are Md Shahnewaz Redwan (Dhaka division), Mohammad Alauddin Chowdhury (Chittagong division), Md Iman Ali (Khulna division), Md Nazrul Islam (Sylhet division), Md Jasim Uddin Howlader (Barisal division), Md Iqbal Hossain (Rajshahi division), Mohammad Abdus Selim (Mymensingh division) and Md Maidul Islam (Rangpur division).

Sabina Imam, Md Kamrul Hasan Bipu and Md Redwan Hossain were elected as joint secretaries, while Ahmed Asif Akhtar Manju was elected organizing secretary. Md Russell Rana and Md Abdul Jabbar were elected assistant organizing secretaries.

Md Anwar Hossain was elected finance secretary, Md Ataur Rahman office secretary and Ishaq Hossain Talukder Shuvo assistant office secretary.

Md Helal Morshed Sohag was elected publicity secretary and Mohammad Rashedul Islam Russell assistant publicity secretary.

Md Anwar Hossain Sujon was elected social welfare secretary, Md Bellal Hossain Sarkar employment affairs secretary, Mohammad Akidul Islam legal affairs secretary, Abdullah Al Naeem education, literature and cultural secretary and Md Harun-or-Rashid assistant education, literature and cultural secretary.

Shahnaz Akhter was elected women's affairs secretary and Rita Pal assistant women's affairs secretary. Mohammad Nasir Uddin was elected information and research secretary and Md Gias Uddin Mia assistant information and research secretary. Md Saifur Rahman Nahid was elected science and technology affairs secretary.

Md Humayun Kabir served as chief election commissioner, while GMA Aminul Islam and Imran Hossain performed duties as assistant election commissioners.
