RAJSHAHI, Feb 14, 2026 (BSS)- Twenty candidates in six parliamentary constituencies in Rajshahi have lost their election deposits.
As they failed to secure at least one-eighth of the total votes cast in their respective constituencies, they will not get back the money they had deposited with the Election Commission.
Each candidate had to submit a deposit of Tk 50,000 to contest the election.
According to the results, out of the six constituencies, BNP won four and Jamaat won two.
Afia Akhter announced the results after 2:00 am on Thursday. In Rajshahi, the winning and runner-up candidates will get their deposits refunded.
In Rajshahi-1, Gana Adhikar Parishad candidate Mir Md. Shahjahan received 407 votes, AB Party's Abdur Rahman 1,100 votes, and independent candidate Md. Al-Saad 663 votes-losing their deposits.
In Rajshahi-2, AB Party's Sayeed Noman received 786 votes, Nagorik Oikya's Mohammad Samsul Alam 552 votes, Bangladesh Labour Party's Mezbaul Islam 387 votes, and independent candidate Saleh Ahmed 801 votes-also losing their deposits.
In Rajshahi-3, independent candidate Habiba Begum received 1,117 votes, Jatiya Party's Afzal Hossain 2,390 votes, Islami Andolan Bangladesh's Fazlur Rahman 2,390 votes, and Amjanatar Dal's Saeed Parvez 295 votes-losing their deposits.
In Rajshahi-4, Islami Andolan Bangladesh's Tajul Islam Khan received 670 votes and Jatiya Party's Fazlul Haque received 1759 votes. They will not get their deposits back either.
In Rajshahi-5, Islami Andolan Bangladesh's Ruhul Amin received 620 votes and lost his deposit. Additionally, three independent candidates-Raihan Kawser (442 votes), Isfa Khairul Haque Shimul with 2,496 votes, and Rezaul Karim with 6,432 votes-also failed to retain their deposits.
In Rajshahi-6, Islami Andolan Bangladesh's Abdus Salam Suruj received 1,628 votes and Jatiya Party's Iqbal Hossain 2,930 votes, both losing their deposits.
A total of 32 candidates contested in the six constituencies in Rajshahi, 20 candidates lost their deposits.
