Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2: 6 held, 16 firearms recovered in Dhaka

DHAKA, Feb 8, 2026 (BSS) - Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested six persons and seized 16 firearms and over 100 rounds of bullets in the capital within the last 24 hours under Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2, following coordinated drives by multiple police stations.

According to police sources, the arrests were carried out on Saturday by Mohammadpur, Badda, Bangshal, Bhashantek and Bhatara police stations during day-long operations in crime-prone areas.
Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirmed the arrests and seizure.   

Mohammadpur Police Station arrested Md. Zahirul Islam Zahir, 44, along with two pistols, two magazines and six rounds of ammunition from his possession.

In a major haul, Badda Police Station arrested Mehedi Hasan Dipu alias Dipu, 40. 

A large cache of arms and equipment, including three revolvers, nine pistols, one rifle, air guns, multiple magazines and hundreds of rounds of ammunition, along with walkie-talkies, binoculars, a laptop, Chinese axes, mobile phones and a knife were seized from his possessions.

Bangshal Police Station arrested Md. Sohel, 30, during its operation, while Bhashantek Police Station detained Md. Sathi Akhter, 35, and Md. Sajjad Hossain, 19.

Meanwhile, Bhatara Police Station arrested Shamsu, 40, as part of the same drive.

Police said all the arrested individuals have been produced before the court, and legal proceedings are underway. 

Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2 continues as part of DMP’s ongoing effort to curb crime and illegal arms in the capital.
