DHAKA, Feb 06, 2026 (BSS)- BNP candidate for Dhaka-9 constituency Habibur Rashid Habib has pledged to bring radical changes in the area and build a discrimination free society if he is elected in the upcoming election.

In a recent interview with BSS correspondent Naziur Rahman Sohel, he said the upcoming February 12 polls is not just a means of electing representatives, but rather it is a fight to regain the ownership of the people achieved in exchange of the blood of martyrs during July-August 2024 mass uprising.
Therefore, he said, exercising the right to vote in this election is not only a civil right, but also a state and moral responsibility.

Habib talked about the election promises to eliminate various problems regarding education, healthcare and housing in his constituency as well as his plan for improving the living standards of the backward communities, eradicating drugs and terrorism.

Referring to Dhaka-9 constituency as a neglected area for 17 years, former general secretary of Chhatra Dal, Habibur Rashid Habib said, “For a long time, the people of this area have been deprived of civic rights and modern amenities. They did not get what they deserve as citizens during the past fascist regime. If I get the opportunity to be elected as a parliament member, I want to focus on improving the quality of education and healthcare and medical sectors as well as modernizing management.

He said the roads and planned urbanization have not been developed in his constituency throughout the entire period of the fascist government. “If elected, my priority will be to eliminate the gas crisis, repair damaged roads, bridges and culverts, and restore canals to eliminate water-logging."

In addition, Habib said, pragmatic steps will be taken to ensure science-based quality education by removing dilapidated bamboo bridges and building sustainable infrastructure, improving the living standards of the backward people, and modernizing tin-shed schools.

“Drugs, terrorism and insecurity are among the main problems of the area. If I am elected, I will make the area completely violence-free and safe,” he said.

Habib said, "Politically, our position is clear; if anyone from the party is involved in criminal activities, he/she will not be spared. Along with taking organizational measures, they will be handed over to the administration. No criminal will find political refuge in the party.”

Describing the current electoral environment of Dhaka-9 constituency as ideal and friendly, Habib said there is a cordial relationship between all the candidates while his workers are strictly following the electoral code of conduct.

“We are looking forward to a festive vote. I hope that the people will make the festival more lively by casting vote for Paddy Sheaf,” he said.

Regarding ‘state reform after the mass uprising in July-August 2024’, the BNP candidate said, We are in favour of reform. Since the issue of reform has been left to the decision of the voters based on national unity, we are in favour of positive changes in this process. BNP expects that through this reform, major qualitative political change will come to the country.

Calling upon voters to vote for BNP, he said this is not a simple election as the right to vote earned in exchange of blood. After a long time, people are getting back ownership of the country after being freed from the fascist grip, he said.

So this time, exercising the people's right to vote is not only a civic right, but also a state and moral responsibility, he said.

Calling the youth as the 'driving force of the future Bangladesh, Habib said the young generation is at the centre of the 31-point state reform of the BNP. “By implementing the vision of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, we want to build an educated, unemployment-free and work-oriented Bangladesh.

Creating modern training centres, playgrounds and employment opportunities for the youths of Dhaka-9 constituency is the main goals of his election promise, he said.
Addressing the rival candidates, he said: “I do not consider anyone a rival; they are my co-fighters. Together, we want to build a beautiful Dhaka-9 and a prosperous Bangladesh.”

Dhaka-9 constituency consists of Khilgaon, Sabujbagh and Mugda. According to the Election Commission, the total number of voters in this constituency is 469,360. Of them, 237,673 are male voters and 231,682 are female voters.
