UGC member urges teachers to gain students' acceptance

DHAKA, Feb 6, 2026 (BSS) -  Professor Dr. Mohammad Tanzim Uddin Khan, a member of the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh, today stated that while there are various ways to become popular among students, it is far more crucial for a teacher to gain students' acceptance and maintain mental honesty.

He made these remarks while presiding over the closing ceremony of the 1st and 2nd batches of foundational training organized to develop the professional skills of university teachers.

The event was held at the Central Training and Conference Center of Bangladesh Open University (BOU).

Tanzim Uddin Khan emphasized that when a teacher establishes themselves as an acceptable figure, classroom management becomes easier and a more effective relationship is built with the students.

He urged teachers to be conscious of how they are perceived by their students and to play an active role in transforming students' lives.

Highlighting the necessity of professional development, he noted that regular training is essential for improving classroom management, department administration, and general administrative skills.

Furthermore, he encouraged teachers to cultivate a culture of reading books to foster knowledge creation.

Speaking as a special guest, BOU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam highlighted that the training will equip the teachers with vital skills regarding the quality improvement of higher education, outcome-based curriculum development, modern teaching techniques, and research.

He also noted that the program covered project and office management, government audits, and fund collection for institutional development.

He called upon the UGC to continue this timely training initiative.

The training was organized under the Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT) project, which is currently being implemented by the UGC.

A total of 60 teachers from 35 public and private universities across the country participated in the program.

During the ceremony, certificates were distributed to the participants, and six trainees were honored with the UGC Chairman's Award and Merit Award.

Other speakers at the event included HEAT Project Director Professor Dr. Asaduzzaman, Course Director Professor Dr. Sirajul Islam, and Professor Dr. Jahir Raihan. Senior officials from the UGC, BOU, and the HEAT project were also in attendance.
