DHAKA, Feb 6, 2026 (BSS) - Engineer Ishraq Hossain, the BNP-nominated candidate for the Dhaka-6 constituency, has pledged to revitalize old Dhaka by eliminating waterlogging, resolving the acute gas crisis and eradicating drug abuse.
In an interview with Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) today at Baldha Garden, the 'Sheaf of Paddy' candidate shared his electoral vision and development plans for the area, which includes the Sutrapur, Wari, Gandaria, and Kotwali (partial) police stations.
Ishraq identified the severe gas crisis as the primary concern for residents, particularly for homemakers.
"Many parts of the constituency still rely on 70-year-old pipelines that have not been upgraded to match the demand of modern high-rise buildings. I am keeping the modernization of utility infrastructure as my number one priority," he stated, promising to ensure normal gas pressure through local pipeline upgrades and national-level advocacy.
To combat the terrible traffic jams caused by unplanned urbanization and failure to follow building codes, Ishraq mentioned that he has a plan to manage on-road parking, noting that public transport currently occupies 50-60% of road space and free up sidewalks for pedestrians.
Regarding waterlogging, Ishraq plans to clean and open existing drainage systems before the upcoming monsoon, citing solid waste dumping as a major cause of the current blockage.
He further pledged to reduce air, noise, and water pollution to make Old Dhaka more livable.
On law and order, he emphasized ensuring the safety of women and children and creating an environment where businessmen can operate without facing unjust demands or extortion.
He also intends to implement the BNP's 31-point state reform plan to address education, healthcare, and unemployment.
Ishraq alleged that Old Dhaka has long been neglected, claiming that previous Mayors and MPs were unavailable to the public and failed to visit the constituency even during Eid festivals.
He shared his vision to re-generate Old Dhaka by attracting new investments.
The candidate, who entered active politics in 2018 following the death of his father, the late Sadeque Hossain Khoka, expressed his pride in being the son of a freedom fighter and a successful politician.
He noted that his father's legacy of development remains visible in the area's mosques, temples, and schools.
Ishraq also praised BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, describing him as a symbol of inspiration for the youth and the representative of all classes of people, from students to farmers.
He concluded by seeking the prayers and support of his constituents for the upcoming election.
