Jamaat leader Nuruzzaman Badal laid to rest in Sherpur

SHERPUR, Feb 4, 2026 (BSS) – Sherpur district Jamaat-e-Islami secretary and Jamaat-nominated candidate for the Sherpur-3 (Srivardi–Jhenaigati) constituency, Nuruzzaman Badal was laid to eternal rest at his family graveyard at Poragaon village under Sreebardi upazila of the district this evening. 

His first namaz-e-janaza was held in the afternoon at the Sherpur Municipal Eidgah ground.

The janaza prayer began at 2:30 pm and was led by Jamaat’s Central Committee Assistant Secretary General, Maulana ATM Masum. Leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami, the BNP and the 11-party alliance joined the janaza after Zuhr prayers, arriving from the district’s five upazilas.

His second namaz-e-janaza was held at 5:00 pm at Sreebardi College ground in his own constituency.

According to party sources, Nuruzzaman Badal fell seriously ill during an election rally in Sreebardi around 10:00 pm on Tuesday night. He was initially taken to Sreebardi Upazila Health Complex. As his condition worsened, he was referred to Mymensingh, but he died on way to the hospital at around 2:00 am.

Following his death, the Election Commission has postponed the election in the Sherpur-3 constituency. Sherpur District Returning Officer Tarafdar Mahmudur Rahman confirmed the decision.
