DHAKA, Feb 2, 2026 (BSS) – BNP nominee for Dhaka-6 constituency Engineer Ishraque Hossain has pledged to free old Dhaka particularly Gendaria from water logging, the gas crisis, and drugs, saying that if elected he will remain committed to resolving all problems.

He made the remarks during door-to-door campaigning in the old railway line area of ward number - 45 in Gendaria here.

Ishraque said past governments had wanted to keep the country’s youth addicted in drugs. 

He said one former lawmaker was known as “Yaba Bodi,” alleging that he flooded the entire country with drugs.

If BNP comes to power, drugs will be eradicated from Bangladesh, and old Dhaka, like the rest of the country, will be made drug-free, he said.
The BNP candidate said his father, Sadeque Hossain Khoka, had dreamed of turning old Dhaka into a liveable city.

Ishraque said he would remain committed to fulfilling that dream for the residents of old Dhaka.

At the event, local residents said many areas of old Dhaka have become inhabitable due to drugs, and expressed hope that their candidate would provide a proper solution.
