DHAKA, Feb 02, 2026 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today imposed a travel ban on former director of Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation (Petrobangla) Rafiqul Islam over corruption charges.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The petition said an investigation is underway into allegations that Rafiqul Islam amassed illegal assets worth Taka 100 crore through various corrupt practices, including unlawful gas connections and reconnections, waiver of gas bills, irregularities in recruitment and promotion, payment of contractors’ bills, and selling information on the country’s gas reserves to foreigners.

It added that, according to reliable sources, he may flee abroad, making a travel ban imperative in the interest of a fair investigation.
