DHAKA, Feb 02, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today imposed a travel ban on Essential Drugs Company Limited (EDCL) Managing Director Md A Samad Mridha over graft charges.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The application said an investigation is underway into allegations that Md A Samad Mridha, acting in collusion, laundered crores of taka abroad. 

It added that, based on open sources and confidential intelligence, he allegedly embezzled large sums through tender-related dealings in various procurements and attempted to flee overseas after siphoning off the funds. The application warned that his departure could delay or obstruct the investigation, making a travel ban necessary in the interest of a fair probe.
