CHATTOGRAM, Feb 1, 2026 (BSS)- Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Dr
Shahadat Hossain announced the construction of 12 secondary transfer stations
(STS) in the city to modernize waste management.
He made this statement while inaugurating a newly-built STS near Sadarghat
Police Station. Dr. Hossain emphasized that these STSs are strategically
planned to enhance the city's sanitation system and make it more efficient
for residents.
The STSs will serve as temporary storage and sorting facilities for waste
collected from primary collection points in each ward. This process will
streamline waste management by consolidating waste before transporting it to
the final disposal facility.
This approach will reduce transportation costs and alleviate the burden of
garbage on the city's infrastructure, the mayor highlighted.
He announced the construction of a second-stage waste transfer center in 12
locations across the city including Sadarghat, Kazir Deuri, BNP Office Area,
Katalganj, Nasirabad, Mohra, Khejurtala, Dampara, Shilpakala Academy and
South Baklia.
He emphasized that the responsibility of maintaining cleanliness in the city
does not solely fall on the City Corporation but requires the collective
effort of all residents. Mayor Dr. Shahadat highlighted the need for
collaboration to create a clean and beautiful Chattogram.
Furthermore, he mentioned the recent procurement of large-scale vehicles and
equipment, including seven-ton backhoe loaders, after nearly two to two and a
half decades. A proposal has been put forward to acquire equipment worth Taka
300 to 400 crore to enhance cleaning activities.
The event was attended, among others, by CCC Acting Chief Executive Officer
