DHAKA, Feb 1, 2026 (BSS) - ACC has applied to the court for a travel ban on the Managing Director (MD) of state-owned Essential Drugs Company Limited (EDCL) M. Samad Mridha, who is an American citizen also.
Director General of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Md. Akhtar Hossain said this during a regular media briefing at ACC headquarters here.
According to the ACC, the application was filed in connection with the allegations of tender manipulation, embezzlement of funds and money laundering.
The allegations stated that under the pretext of purchasing the hormonal drug raw material “Desogestrel USP,” fake tenders were arranged, artificial competition was created through syndicates and through nepotism and commission fraud, a huge amount of state funds was misappropriated.
The complaint further alleged that crores of taka were laundered abroad through entities named Mark Alarize International and Reliance Trade International.
To investigate into the allegations, the ACC has formed a two-member team led by Assistant Director Nurul Islam. The other member of the team is Sub-Assistant Director A M Taher.
ACC source said that a hearing on the appeal is scheduled to be held tomorrow.
