DHAKA, Jan 31, 2026 (BSS) - BNP standing committee member and 'Sheaf of Paddy' (Dhaner Shish) candidate for Dhaka-8 constituency Mirza Abbas today called on party leaders and activists to remain patient and calm throughout the election period to ensure a peaceful environment.

"Remain calm in provocative situations. Victory is on our side, Insha Allah. Exercise patience for a few days and do not fall into the trap of any conspiracy," he said while addressing a brief rally ahead of a mass procession in support of the 'Sheaf of Paddy' symbol at the Brothers Club field in the capital.

The procession began from the Brothers Club field, marched through various roads of the Dhaka-8 constituency, and ended at the BNP central office in Naya Paltan.

Addressing party supporters, Mirza Abbas said the people of Bangladesh have struggled for 17 years to secure the election. He noted that many BNP leaders and activists sacrificed their lives, while senior leaders were martyred during the movement.

"The people of the country suffered for a long time without democratic rights. We have achieved this election through our movement," he said.

Recalling the role of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, he said she struggled relentlessly for the people of Bangladesh, even at the risk of her life. "Keeping her sacrifices in mind, we must move forward on our future path, preserve our independence and sovereignty, and create an environment for a fair election," he added.

Mirza Abbas also warned of conspiracies surrounding the upcoming polls, saying efforts were underway to disrupt the election process and divert public attention.

The veteran BNP leader said that although the party has participated in many elections in the past, it has never attacked its opponents. "We have always conducted elections in a festive atmosphere. Even now, our leaders and activists are playing a calm and disciplined role," he said.

Appealing once again to party leaders and activists, he urged them to refrain from provocative speeches or actions. "Victory is ours, Insha Allah. Be patient for a few days," he said.

He added that the BNP is committed to maintaining peace in the country before and after the election, stating, "Our aim is to restore peace and bring smiles back to the faces of the people."
