Court orders seizure of tax records of ex-MP Rubina, husband

DHAKA, Jan 25, 2026 (BSS) - A Dhaka court today ordered the seizure of income tax records of former lawmaker Syeda Rubina Akter and her husband, Md Mosharraf Hossain Sardar over graft allegations.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order, allowing two separate petitions filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

According to the petitions, Syeda Rubina Akter, while serving as a Member of Parliament (Reserved Women's Seat-28), allegedly abused her power and amassed assets worth Taka 1.57 crore through corrupt practices, which are inconsistent with her known sources of income. She is also accused of conducting abnormal and suspicious transactions amounting to Taka 139.35 crore through bank accounts in her own name and related interests, prompting the ACC to file a case against her.

In a separate case, the ACC alleged that Mosharraf Hossain Sardar, with the assistance of his wife, Syeda Rubina Akter, acquired assets worth Taka 1.26 crore and conducted abnormal and suspicious transactions totalling Taka 18.44 crore through bank accounts in his own name and related interests.

Both Syeda Rubina Akter and Mosharraf Hossain Sardar are registered income taxpayers. For the sake of a proper investigation into assets inconsistent with their known sources of income, the court deemed it necessary to seize their original income tax returns and related documents from the beginning of their tax filings to the latest assessment year.
