MEHERPUR, Jan 23, 2026 (BSS) - The government has inaugurated a new IT Training and Incubation Center in Meherpur with the primary objective of developing a robust startup ecosystem and creating skilled human resources in the region.

Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, special Assistant to the Chief Adviser (CA) for the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, today inaugurated the facility, which was implemented by the Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority under the ICT Division.

Speaking at the event, Taiyeb emphasized that for emerging districts like Meherpur, creating technology-based employment and skilled manpower is essential for sustainable development.

Taiyeb outlined three main goals for the center --providing infrastructure support to transform local small IT businesses into startups; training students and youth in freelancing, e-commerce, and ICT skills to ensure quality employment; and bridging the gap between education and real-world skills by creating effective connections between universities and the industry.

The center is equipped with modern computer labs, startup spaces, incubation facilities, and a 150-seat auditorium to facilitate entrepreneurship development and business training.

Taiyeb noted that all training provided will be verified by the National Skills Development Authority (NSDA), ensuring that trainees receive recognition both domestically and internationally.

Addressing the issue of centralization, Taiyeb highlighted that local entrepreneurs can now apply for government startup funds, training, and investment facilities through Startup Bangladesh Limited and the IDEA Project directly from Meherpur.

This initiative aims to significantly reduce the disparity between Dhaka and other region, he added.

Special guest Monir Haider, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser (Consensus), remarked that the center opens a new door of possibilities for the youth of Meherpur and urged locals to make the best use of the facility.

The event was presided over by Mohammad Saiful Hasan, Member (Joint Secretary) of the Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority, who reiterated the authority's commitment to expanding IT infrastructure nationwide.

During the ceremony, Taiyeb also inaugurated a workshop titled "Specialized ICT Training for College Teachers".

The event was attended by notable figures including Meherpur University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Sheikh Bakhtiar Uddin, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Syed Enamul Kabir, Police Superintendent Uzzal Kumar Roy, and Project Director Arifuzzaman.
