CHATTOGRAM, Jan 20, 2026 (BSS) – RAB Director General AKM Shahidur Rahman has announced that Jungle Salimpur area of Chattogram, a sanctuary for terrorists, will be freed from all illegal settlements and arms-holders through legal measures.
He assured the people of the area that the RAB would eliminate this hub of illegal activities.
Shahidur Rahman was taking to journalists after the Namaj-e-Janaza of RAB officer Motaleb Hossain, who was killed in a terrorist attack yesterday, at the RAB-7, head-office in Patenga, Chattogram today.
He stated that Naib Subedar Motaleb Hossain was martyred and assured that those who were responsible for the incident will be brought to justice. He also mentioned that RAB will oversee the case until the judicial process is completed.
The RAB DG expressed concern for the family of Motaleb, stating that they have suffered irreparable loss. He mentioned that his wife has lost her husband and the children have lost their father. The RAB has taken responsibility of the family, he added.
Regarding the Jungle Salimpur, the RAB DG described it as a terrorist hideout. Legal action will be taken against those living there illegally and using illegal weapons. A raid will be conducted in the area soon.
AKM Shahidur Rahman also highlighted the RAB's successful operations in arresting terrorists and recovering weapons since June-August 2024. He acknowledged the risks involved in every raid and explained that the decision not to open fire during Monday's incident was made to avoid harm to innocent civilians.
He said that a thorough investigation of the entire incident will be conducted. He mentioned that any errors will be rectified, and future raids will be carried out more effectively. Some individuals involved in the attack have already been identified, and they will soon be apprehended, he added.
On January 19, a member of RAB-7, Nayeb Subedar Md. Motaleb Hossain, was killed in a gunfight with terrorists during a raid in the Salimpur jungle area. Three other RAB members sustained injuries in the confrontation. Following the incident, joint forces were deployed to secure all entrances to the area.
