Navy detains top terror Shamsul with firearms in Teknaf

DHAKA, Jan 19, 2026 (BSS) - The joint forces led by Bangladesh Navy, in an overnight drive, last night arrested Shamsul Haque alias Bodafula, a suspect with warrants in several criminal cases, including firearms and ammunitions in Nazirpara area of Teknaf upazila. 

“Based on secret information, the naval contingent and its special forces-Special Warfare Diving and Salvage (AWADS) - conducted drive last night and arrested local top terrorist Shamsul Haque by chasing him while fleeing,” said a release of Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate this afternoon.

Subsequently the local police seized two foreign pistols, two rounds of pistol bullets, two rounds of shotgun bullets and one domestic sharp weapon by searching his makeshift hut in the watermelon field, it said.

The detainee, a local top terrorist, was found involved in various criminal activities, including drug trafficking, extortion by holding people hostage and forcibly occupying others’ land for a long time, police meanwhile mentioned.

Subsequently, he was handed over to Teknaf Police Station along with the recovered weapons and ammunitions to take legal action against him.
In order to implement the instructions of the current government and the Election Commission, the Bangladesh Navy continues its regular operations to ensure the security of the sea and coastal areas ahead of the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad (parliamentary) Polls.

Nearly 5,000 Navy personnel were deployed in 25 contingents in 16 parliamentary constituencies across eight districts to ensure a fair, free and fair election, the ISPR added.
