BNP directs party nominees to comply election rules, regulations during campaigning

DHAKA, Jan 19, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has directed its party-nominated candidates to strictly follow the rules and regulations set by the Election Commission during election campaigning for the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad polls.

The directives were given in a letter sent to the party candidates stating that full-scale election campaigning will begin from January 22.  Chairman of the BNP Central Election Steering Committee and a member of the party’s Standing Committee Nazrul Islam Khan signed the letter.

In the letter it was stated during this period, all relevant laws and regulations must be strictly followed in the use of banners, billboards, festoons, handbills and leaflets, photographs (portraits), and voter slips.

The directive further mentioned that the maximum size of banners will be 10 feet by 4 feet, billboards 16 feet by 9 feet, festoons 18 inches by 24 inches, handbills or leaflets 8.27 inches by 11.69 inches, photographs (portraits) 60 centimeters by 45 centimeters, and voter slips 12 centimeters by 8 centimeters.

It also said that no posters can be used in election campaigning. Banners, festoons, handbills and leaflets, photographs, and voter slips must be in black and white. Only billboards and social media content may use color in text and images.

According to the directives, banners, handbills and leaflets, and festoons may display the candidate’s electoral symbol and his or her own photograph, along with only the portrait photograph of the party’s current chief.

In addition, no banner, handbill, leaflet, or festoon may be used without mentioning the name and address of the printing press and the date of printing.

No candidate can use more than 20 billboards in a single electoral constituency. At the same time, the use of drones, quadcopters, or any similar devices during election campaigning and on the polling day will remain completely prohibited.
