Khasru for empowering people, cutting power to prevent reemergence of fascism

CHATTOGRAM, Jan 16, 2026 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said that power of people should be increased through reducing the power of the state as more power in state ultimately help emerge fascism and create worrisome situation for the countrymen. 

Khasru made the remarks while speaking as chief guest at founding anniversary function of Chattogram Dharma Ujjal Parishad held at National Maritime Academy this afternoon. 

Captain Ataur Rahman and member of the BNP’s International Affairs Sub-Committee Israfil Khasru spoke at the function as special guest.
 
BNP leader and former CCC counsellor Sarfaraj Kader Russel , Roknuddin Mahmud , Trustee of Buddhist Welfare Trust Rubel Barua , Pritom Barua Dhalim, Bipul Chakma , Alo Chakma , Shukarjit Chakma , Jibon Chakma , Robi Chakma , Biddaashay  Chakma  and Mamuni Chakma, among others, addressed the function.

Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said that BNP wants that every citizen of the country to be empowered as per their constitutional rights and plan has been chalked out to bring necessary changes in future in this regard.   
 
“Countrymen were kept hostage and frustration gripped the people in the past as more power in compare to people had concentrated on state hand. That’s why it is high time to cut state power with enhancing the power of people,” Khasru observed.
 
“We have to maintain prevailing inter-religious harmony and social unity. We want every citizen of the country work freely, ensure their participation in all affairs and take leadership as per their capacity,” he said.  

Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury also said that women’s bigger scale participation in all social and state affairs was a key pre-requisite for sustainable development and bringing effective changes in the society. 

“We all are equal and rights of every citizens irrespective of caste, creed and religion are equal. So you need not to feel inferiority in this regard,” Khasru added.
