DHAKA, Jan 14, 2026 (BSS) - A high-level delegation of the Christian
community, led by US academic Dr Gordon Klingenschmitt, paid a courtesy call
on Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman this evening at the
party's central office in the capital's Mogbazar area.
The meeting took place in a warm and cordial atmosphere, said a press
release.
During the discussion, the two sides exchanged views on religious harmony in
Bangladesh, the rights of minorities, peaceful coexistence and ways to uphold
social peace.
Jamaat Ameer said Bangladesh is a multi-religious and multicultural country,
stressing that ensuring religious freedom and security for all citizens is
the responsibility of the state.
He said Jamaat-e-Islami has always stood for the rights, dignity and justice
of people irrespective of religion or ethnicity.
On behalf of the delegation, representatives highlighted various social and
religious issues faced by the Christian community in Bangladesh and expressed
hope for further strengthening mutual understanding and cooperation.
Dr Gordon Klingenschmitt praised the existing cordial relations among people
of different faiths in Bangladesh and underscored the importance of
continuing such dialogues.
Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami and Head of its Central
Publicity and Media Department Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, noted academic
Dr Zubair Ahmed and cultural personality Professor Saifullah Mansur were
present during the meeting.
Members of the delegation included National Christian Fellowship of
Bangladesh General Secretary Martha Das, Bangladesh Evangelical Revival
Churches Chairman Bony Baroi, and former legislator and Teacher for Pastor in
Bangladesh Dr Gordon, among others.
