DHAKA, Nov 20, 2025 (BSS) – The Khilafat Majlis has expressed satisfaction with the historic verdict delivered by the Supreme Court’s Appellate Division, which reinstated the Caretaker Government system.
In a joint statement released today, Maulana Abdul Basit Azad, Amir of Khilafat Majlis, and Dr. Ahmed Abdul Qader, Secretary General, stated that the country's people are delighted by the decision, and that a victory for the people has been achieved.
They called the day of the verdict “historic”.
The leaders noted that the Supreme Court’s Appellate Division had previously canceled the Caretaker Government system from the Constitution on May 10, 2011.
Following this cancellation, three national elections were held under the supervision of a partisan government, which they claim led to the prolongation of a one-party Awami fascist rule in the country.
They alleged that the last sixteen years saw the initiation of cruel suppression against opposition political parties and dissenting voices.
During this period, freedom of speech was stifled by a steamroller of oppression, which included claims of genocide, enforced disappearances, kidnapping, torture, and general persecution.
Furthermore, they claimed that the independence, sovereignty, and public safety of Bangladesh were threatened.
The Khilafat Majlis leaders expressed relief that the full bench of the High Court, led by the Chief Justice, has now ruled in favor of reinstating the Caretaker system.
According to the statement, this reinstatement verdict will be effective starting from the 14th National Parliamentary Election.
The leaders emphasized that the non-partisan, neutral Caretaker Government system is the only viable path currently available.
They argued it is essential for preventing violence and terrorism during the transfer of power and ensuring fair elections in Bangladesh.
