DHAKA, Nov 20, 2025 (BSS) – A weekly school titled School for Underprivileged and Rootless Children — Suvhidabanchita O Chinnamul Shishuder Shikshaloy — was inaugurated today at Bahadur Shah Park, formerly known as Victoria Park, in Old Dhaka, marking the birthday of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
The initiative has been launched under the patronage of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) Central Vice-President Kazi Zia Uddin Basit.
According to the organisers, the school aims to provide basic education and raise awareness about fundamental rights among the underprivileged children residing in and around Bahadur Shah Park.
Classes will be held every Saturday and Tuesday at 9 am, with two Jagannath University (JnU) students appointed as permanent instructors.
Likhon Islam, a student of the JnU Bangla department and one of the designated teachers, said the initiative was undertaken to ensure that deprived children do not fall into criminal activities.
“This effort will inspire them to pursue education, which will ultimately benefit the country,” he added.
Patron of the school, Kazi Zia Uddin Basit, said the school was launched to commemorate the birthday of Tarique Rahman.
“Our aim is to prevent any individual or group from exploiting street children for their own interests. If we receive positive feedback, we will consider establishing a permanent infrastructure in the future,” he said.
