Titas raids 3 districts, cuts illegal gas lines

DHAKA, Nov 20, 2025 (BSS) - Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd has carried out separate drives in different areas of Narayanganj, Dhaka and Gazipur districts to detect and remove illegal gas connections.

The first drive was led by Senior Assistant Secretary and Executive Magistrate Milton Roy in the Ichapara and Sonargaon Thana-adjacent areas Tuesday, where one lime factory, one foundry, one "khanadhuli" factory and one residential connection were disconnected, said a press release today.

Authorities seized 35 feet of MS pipe, three burners, a 10-kilowatt diesel generator and two stone-weighing machines. The owner of the lime factory was fined Taka 50,000. The lime and foundry factories were later demolished and the stocked lime was destroyed.

On the same day, Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Md Tarikul Islam led operations in Modern Housing, Panchabati and Fatullah areas of Narayanganj.

Three residential connections were severed for using gas beyond approved installations. In addition, around 300 double burners attached to 16 residential connections were removed. About 350 feet of 3.5-inch-diameter pipe was seized, and Taka 2.20 lakh was realized in instant fines.

Later, a drive under Dhaka Sales Zone-6 detected an abandoned, gasless service line at the National Washing Plant in Mirpur-1, which was subsequently disconnected. During the operation, 75 feet of MS pipe and one regulator were seized.

In the Safipur Purbo Para and Mondol Para areas of the Chandra region, a separate drive disconnected 94 double burners used illegally by seven residential consumers, while four regulators were seized.

Titas also conducted operations in Savar and Ashulia under the regional sales zone. Approximately 200 double burners installed in about 25 houses in the Yusuf Market area were disconnected, and 300 feet of MS pipes of various diameters were seized.

The action prevented an estimated monthly gas theft of Taka 216,400. Illegal connections had also been removed in the area last week.

In Jamgora, Ashulia, technical support was provided during the disconnection of a defaulting CNG refuelling station, Mizan CNG.

According to Titas Gas, from September 2024 to November 13, 2025, a total of 76,311 illegal gas connections, including 419 industrial, 544 commercial and 75,348 residential, were removed.

A total of 163,675 burners were disconnected during this period, while 317 kilometers of pipeline were dismantled.
