Three AL, BCL leaders held in RANGPUR

RANGPUR, Nov 14, 2025 (BSS) - Police in separate daylong raids on Thursday arrested three leaders of the banned Awami League (AL) and Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) from different areas of Rangpur district.

They were arrested in connection with cases filed over attacks, attempted murder during the anti-discrimination student movement and July Uprising, as well as sabotage and alleged anti-government activities.

The detainees are Pirgachha Upazila Awami League vice-president and Pirgachha Women's College assistant professor Md Mizanur Rahman, BCL leader Mohammad Faisal Hasan Russell and Metropolitan BCL vice-president Asaduzzaman Raja.

Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ataur Rahman confirmed the arrests to BSS.

Kotwali Police arrested Russell from his residence in the Jummapara area of the city around 3:45 am. He is the 57th accused in the attempted murder case of Ramzan Ali during the anti-discrimination student movement.

Rangpur Metropolitan Police later arrested Metropolitan BCL vice-president Raja from the Khalifa Para area around 12 noon. He is accused in the attempted murder case of Shahidul Islam Sagar during the same movement.

Pirgachha Thana Police arrested AL leader Md Mizanur Rahman from in front of the Pirgachha Upazila Parishad complex around noon.

Police produced the three arrested persons before the Rangpur courts on Thursday afternoon, and they were subsequently sent to jail.
