DHAKA, Nov 08, 2025 (BSS) - The two-day 6th International Conference of the Bangladesh Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition was held at the Shaheed Abu Sayeed Convention Center of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) here today.
A variety of programmes, including scientific seminars, were organized in connection with the event. Over 600 participants including teachers, specialist physicians, doctors and students across the country, attended the conference. Several foreign medical experts also took part in it.
The conference emphasized on the prevention, treatment and awareness of gastric, liver and nutrition-related problems of children as well as the advancement of modern pediatric gastroenterology services.
The speakers also stressed the need for greater focus on research and medical education in the field of pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition.
The opening ceremony of the conference was graced by Prof Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam, Vice-Chancellor of BMU as the Chief Guest, while it was presided over by Prof Dr. A.S.M. Bazlul Karim, president of the society.
Prof Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) and Prof Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman Howlader, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research & Dev attended the conference as special guests, where Prof Dr. Md. Atiar Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Pediatrics at BMU, attended as guest of honour.
The welcome address was delivered by Prof Dr. Md. Rokonuzzaman, General Secretary of the society while its Treasurer Dr Md Atiar Rahman delivered the vote of thanks.
The speakers also noted that the international conference will play an important role in preventing childhood hepatitis, diarrhea and chronic liver diseases, enhancing knowledge-sharing among physicians and promoting research and treatment in pediatric liver and gastroenterology care.
They also emphasized on ensuring proper nutrition that is essential for children’s overall health and wellbeing.
BMU’s Pediatric Gastroenterology department’s current offers on advanced treatment facilities for children with liver, gastrointestinal, and nutrition-related diseases along with higher education and ongoing research programmes in these fields were highlighted at the event.
