ACC cracks down on corruption in three districts

DHAKA, Nov 3, 2025 (BSS) - The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched separate enforcement operations in three districts, Kishoreganj, Dhaka and Noakhali, following allegations of irregularities, corruption, and harassment in the medical, export, and infrastructure construction sectors.

The lone anti-graft watchdog confirmed the matter to the media through a press release.

The ACC uncovered serious lapses in patient care and hospital management at Tarail Upazila Health Complex in Kishoreganj.

An undercover inspection revealed that cooked meat for patients was served at 125 grams instead of the prescribed 180 grams, bread weighed only 50 grams instead of 100 grams, and the mandated 50 grams of sugar was not provided.

Inspectors also noted unhygienic kitchen and bathroom conditions, failure to display mandatory diet charts, use of expired reagents, and unclean bed sheets.

The team reported that patients experienced long waiting times due to the absence of doctors as per schedule.

In addition, a doctor was found operating a private chamber within the hospital premises. The ACC has advised immediate corrective action, with a detailed report to be submitted based on the investigation.

A separate operation from the ACC Head Office in Dhaka focused on allegations of corruption and mismanagement in organizing fairs and exhibitions by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) in Dhaka.

Investigators found irregularities in receiving deposits from Bangladeshi organizations participating in the 7th China South Asia Expo and the 27th China Import and Export Fair.

Delays were also reported in approving participation for the Poland Show Expo 2022. Preliminary evidence points to administrative corruption and dishonest practices. Records were reviewed and evidence inventoried, with a full report to be submitted to the commission.

The ACC’s Integrated District Office conducted a drive into allegations of substandard materials and other irregularities in the construction of a mini stadium in Sonaimuri Upazila, Noakhali.

On-site inspections and tests by an impartial engineer confirmed initial evidence of substandard materials.

Results are under analysis, and a detailed report will be prepared for the commission.
