DHAKA, Oct 29, 2025 (BSS) - Eight political parties have demanded implementation of the final recommendations of the National Consensus Commission, the issuance of the July National Charter Order, and holding national referendum within November.
They came up with the demand at a press conference held in the capital today.
Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Professor Miah Ghulam Parwar, Secretary General of Islami Andolan Bangladesh Principal Yunus Ahmad, Secretary General of KhelafatMajlish Dr. Ahmed Abdul Quader, Senior Naib-e-Amir of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish Maulana Yusuf Ashraaf, Secretary General of Bangladesh Nezam-e-Islam Party Maulana Musa Bin Izhar, Naib-e-Amir of Bangladesh Khelafat Andolan Maulana Mujibur Rahman Hamidi, Vice-President and spokesperson of JAGPA Engineer Rashed Pradhan and Secretary General of Bangladesh Development Party Nizamul Haque Nayeem were present at the press conference.
Professor Miah Ghulam Parwar said, "Out of the 166 proposals of the National Consensus Commission, 84 have been adopted as decisions. The Commission has submitted its recommendations for the implementation of the July Charter to the Chief Adviser. We believe that without a referendum, the July National Charter will not gain a legally sustainable basis. Therefore, the referendum must be completed within November."
"Since assuming office, the interim government has been working with the commitment to try those responsible for genocide, implement state reforms, and block all paths for the return of autocracy. The roadmap for the national parliamentary election has also been determined. We call for ensuring an environment for a free, fair, neutral, and fear-free election,” he added.
Leaders of other parties asserted that organizing the election under the Proportional Representation (PR) system is now a demand of the time and argued that this system is necessary to prevent the influence of black money, booth capturing, and vote rigging in elections, and to ensure that every vote is properly valued.
They noted that the majority of political parties, academics, journalists, and civil society across the country agree with this demand.
At the press conference they announced programmes based on the five-point demands- submission of a memorandum to the Election Commission tomorrow. A meeting of the top leaders will be held on November 3 and after the meeting they will announce a broader programme through a press conference.
