DNCC to develop green patches under elevated expressway

DHAKA, Oct 28, 2025 (BSS) – Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) is to develop green patches on unused spaces of the elevated expressway owned by Bangladesh Bridges Authority (BBA), officials said.

The municipal authority of the capital’s northern part today assigned a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the BBA as part of the initiative.

“We have signed the MoU to develop the green patches in the unused areas under the elevated expressway,” DNCC administrator Mohammad Ejaz said.

He said the initiative was aimed to soothe residents, reducing air pollution and maintain the ecological balance of the city.

BBA director Altaf Hossain Sheikh and DNCC’s chief executive officer Muhammad Asaduzzaman signed the MoU on behalf of their respective sides at the BBA conference room, witnessed by Ezaz among others.

Secretary of the Bridges Division and Executive Director of BBA Mohammad Abdur Rouf chaired the function.

“Our goal is to make urban life more vibrant and well-organized for welfare of citizens by proper use of areas under the elevated expressway,” Rouf said.

He said that necessary civic amenities including native and eco-friendly tree plantations, aesthetic gardens, walkways, cycle lanes (where possible), benches and other open spaces between and around the pillars will be set up to improve environmental quality and face climate change challenges.

Senior officials concerned and project director were present at the event.
