Regular communication with students can help address mental health issues: KU VC

KHULNA, Oct 28, 2025 (BSS) - Khulna University (KU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim has emphasized that regular communication between teachers and students can play a vital role in identifying and addressing mental health challenges among learners.

He also urged parents to remain attentive to behavioral changes or signs of anxiety and depression in their children to ensure timely support and care.

The VC made these remarks while addressing a seminar on "Mental Health Awareness among Students," held at the Lecture Theatre of the Urban and Rural Planning (URP) Discipline of KU on Monday. The event was jointly organized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and Khulna University, with support from Khulna City Corporation (KCC).

Professor Dr. Md. Arifuzzaman presided over the seminar, while KU Registrar and Assistant Professor Dr. Md. Zahir Uddin of the National Institute of Mental Health and Hospital presented the keynote paper. 

The discussion covered topics such as stress, anxiety, depression, suicide risk indicators, academic pressure, and coping mechanisms.

Asif Ahmed, Program Officer of WHO's Healthy City Project, delivered the welcome speech, highlighting the project's ongoing and future initiatives. Professor Dr. Md. Ashiqur Rahman, Director of KU's Office of International Affairs and program facilitator, offered the vote of thanks.

Among others, KCC Administrative Officer Molla Maruf Rashid and Chief Tax Assessor Advocate Sheikh Hafizur Rahman Hafiz also addressed the event.
