DHAKA, Oct 23, 2025 (BSS) - Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali has called for coordinated action among all relevant organizations to improve the capital's traffic system.

Speaking as the chief guest at a seminar organized by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to mark the conclusion of the Dhaka Road Traffic Safety Project (DRSP), the DMP chief said traffic congestion remains one of Dhaka's major challenges.

He emphasized collective efforts, public compliance with transport laws, and foresighted urban planning to ensure smoother traffic flow.

JICA's Chief Representative in Bangladesh Tomohide Ichiguchi described the DRSP as "not just a project, but a promise," highlighting Japan's ongoing partnership with Bangladesh through about USD 2 billion in annual Official Development Assistance (ODA). He underscored the importance of awareness, coordination, and sustained commitment for road safety.

Over the past three years, 6,400 students from 48 educational institutions received training under the DRSP to enhance DMP's capacity and public awareness on road safety.

The seminar was also attended by senior DMP officials and representatives from Dhaka North and South City Corporations, DTCA, ARI, BRTA, BRTC, and JICA.
