'Sensible attitude can make visually impaired inclusive citizens'

MANIKGANJ, Oct 22, 2025 (BSS) - Social Welfare Secretary Dr Mohammad Abu Yousuf said that sensible and responsible behaviour of the society can help persons with visual disabilities become inclusive citizens and active contributors to national development.

"Our considerate and empathetic attitude can enable the visually impaired to become a productive part of the country's human resources," he said.

The secretary made the remarks while visiting various activities conducted by the Manikganj District Social Services Department last evening.

During the visit, special emphasis was laid on education and residential management facilities for visually impaired students. A 10-seat hostel has been established for them, where education is provided through both general and Braille systems.

Dr Abu Yousuf said the government is working to build a safe and humanitarian society for people with visual disabilities, ensuring their participation in mainstream development.

Manikganj Deputy Commissioner Dr Manwar Hossein Malla, Civil Surgeon Dr AKM Mofakkharul Islam, Deputy Director of the Department of Social Services Abdul Baten, house parent of the Integrated Visual Disability Programme Farjana Rahman, and Additional Resource Person Niaz Morshed, among others, were present on the occasion.
