DHAKA, Oct 21, 2025 (BSS)- The Department of Environment (DoE) has seized 309
kilograms (kg) of banned polythene during its different drives in separate
districts across the country.
The drives were conducted as part of guarding the environment from pollution,
a PID handout said here today.
During the drives, the DoE teams filed 32 cases and realized fined money Taka
42,100 while conducting seven mobile courts in Lalmonirhat, Jhenaidah,
Chattogram, Khulna, Natore, and Dhaka (Shyamoli and Manik Mia Avenue) under
the Sound Pollution Control Rules 2006.
In a separate drive under the Air Pollution Control Rules 2022, mobile courts
in Khulna and Mirpur (Dhaka) fined Taka 39,000 in 17 cases for excessive
black smoke emissions from vehicles.
Meanwhile, two mobile court teams participated in other drives and filed
three separate cases against the individuals involved for producing, selling,
and distributing banned polythene causing violation to Section 6(a) of the
Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act, 1995 (Amended 2010) in Bagerhat and
Sherpur districts.
During the drives, 309-kg of illegal polythene were seized and Taka 8000 was
collected as fines.
In addition, a mobile court in Khulna fined Taka 500 for air pollution caused
by construction materials.
Besides, awareness campaigns were advocated to control the use of polythene.
A total of 61 hydraulic horns were seized during these drives.
