KHULNA, Oct 21, 2025 (BSS) - Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former parliament member Mia Golam Parwar today said that the legal basis for the July Charter must be finalised through referendum in November.

He said the country is moving toward a positive direction through the July Charter, which aims to ensure a balance of power and prevent any future authoritarian rule.

Speaking as the chief guest at a polling centre representatives’ conference in Dumuria upazila’s Shahpur area, he said, “We have signed the July Charter to ensure a transparent, neutral, and acceptable election, as well as a balance between the powers of the Prime Minister and the President.”

He added that the government had earlier formed six commissions and proposed several reforms regarding public administration, judiciary, electoral systems, and the Anti-Corruption Commission.

Parwar emphasised that the government should provide the July Charter with legal status through a national referendum in November to ensure the legitimacy of the next election.

“We have urged the Chief Adviser and the Consensus Commission to finalize the legal foundation of the Charter through the upcoming referendum, on which the future government will build a new Bangladesh,” he added.

Dumuria upazila Jamaat Ameer Maulana Moktar Hossain presided over the event, while acting secretary Abdur Rashid Biswas conducted it.

Among others, Khulna district Jamaat secretary Munshi Mizanur Rahman, assistant secretary Prof Mia Golam Kuddus, district executive council member Prof Golam Mostafa Al Mujahid, Shibir president Yusuf Fakir, and upazila Naeb-e-Ameer Gazi Saifullah were present.
