DHAKA, Oct 18, 2025 (BSS) - BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed today said politicians must become technology-dependent to lead effective nation building in the modern era.
He made the remark at discussion titled 'Role of Engineers in Building a Democratic Developed Bangladesh' at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) auditorium in Ramna. The event was organized by the Association of Engineers Bangladesh (AEB).
Addressing the discussion as the chief guest, Salahuddin stressed the importance of placing skilled and appropriate manpower in every sector and highlighted the key role engineers must play in building a developed Bangladesh.
"We dream to implement," he said, referring to BNP founder and Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman's vision of introducing production-oriented politics and education in the country.
"Production-oriented politics is about bringing in talented and skilled individuals, keeping politicians updated on technology and engineering, and aligning our work with public needs," he added.
He urged for the involvement of the youth in politics and stressed that political thinking must stay relevant with changing times.
He said the fallen fascist Awami League inflated the time and costs of mega projects for corruption purposes.
"We were not a poor nation, they made us one," Salahuddin said. In his remarks as special guest, Engineer A N H Akhtar Hossain said engineers have been facing oppression for the past 17 years. He called for more engineers to be elected to Parliament to play a greater role in national development.
The discussion was chaired by AEB Convener Engineer Shahreen Islam Tuhin and moderated by Convener Committee members Engineer K M Asaduzzaman Chunnu and Engineer Shafiul Azam Fahim.
